Sienna Ray & Co., lovable leather handbags & accessories, has spread its wings from Vancouver to NYC’s Mott Street in a PopUp shop sure to please. The boutique, which will be open from Thanksgiving weekend until Christmas Eve, offers a selection of special edition handbags, clutches, cosmetic cases and leather goods catering to the East Coast woman. For the first time Sienna Ray & Co. will debut a capsule collection of men’s small leather goods, RAY87, including wallets, cardholders, and laptop bags. The PopUp will be a true reflection of the brand’s marketing statement, ‘luxurious from the outside in’, capturing the playfulness in the overall shopping experience for it’s customers.
The boutique will embody a similar vision to the handbags: clean and inquisitive, giving customers the opportunity to touch and feel the product, also to see that there really is more then meets the eye. Each handbag is multifaceted just like the New York woman, a bag to rely on that can be with you and enhance your energy from day to night.
“Immediately when we signed the lease I wanted to include other inspiring designers in this opportunity and initiated a series of events ‘PopUp in a PopUp’. I wouldn’t be where I am today without all the help and support from friends, family and industry successors. I feel the PopUp shop is a true test to the brand. I see crisp white walls, edited product, multiple color stories; with accent of our signature lining from dress forms to delicately wrapped Christmas parcels, surrounding the atmosphere with holiday love and gift giving.
The location could not be more fitting in the high-end independent design area of NoLita. I feel extremely humbled to be in a radius of talented designers and brands. I am equally so proud to embrace my Vancouver roots, being situated on a prime shopping trail of Canadian success starting with Artizta on Broadway/Prince, John Fluevog footwear on Mulberry and now Sienna Ray & Co. around the corner.”- Founder & Creative Director, Natalie Kathleen
The Sienna Ray PopUp is located at 252 Mott St, just north of Prince St. Open 7 days a week Novovember 23 – December 24, 2012. Store hours: 11AM-7PM Mon-Sat & 12pm-6pm Sun.

One of the coolest spots in NYC by far has to be the High Line park, located on Manhattan’s West Side. It runs from Gansevoort Street in the Meatpacking District to West 34th Street, between 10th & 11th Avenues. Founded by community residents in 1999, this city sanctuary was built on an historic freight rail line elevated above the streets on Manhattan. From catching some rays, to having a picnic, or even hosting a runway show, the High Line has it all. Almost everyday of the week this public park has an event or attraction for it’s visitors. If you live in NYC, or are just visiting this is a M U S T see.

What can possibly be better than drinking beer on the street and eating oysters all day? The Stone Street Oyster Festival is coming up next Saturday, Sept 22nd in NYC’s Financial District. The party is located on Stone Street and Hanover Square- hosted by financial district stalwarts Ulysses Folk House and Harry’s Café and Steak. The two downtown drinking-dens have put together the party for 10 years running, Good music, fun company, beer + champagne + oyster = a done deal! See you there. xx

Yesterday we had the pleasure of top male fashion blogger, Denny Balmaceda, visit our new office & showroom in NYC’s union square. We were inspired by his vintage/thrifted outfit & asked him to rock our brand new “medusa” doctor bag from Sienna Ray & Co.’s unreleased autumn.winter 2012 collection. His confidence, sophistication, and overall “swagg” made our medusa really stand out. A special thank you to his photographer Lee Reyes- it was a pleasure working with you guys! xo

Fashion’s Night Out (FNO) was originally conceived by Anna Wintour in 2008. For me, FNO is like a city wide fashion show that is open to the public. Designers and important people in the fashion industry make appearances at retail stores that are showing their latest fashion. FNO is definitely a love child of fashion and fun.
To list a couple of my favorite in store events on 10/8…
Phillip Lim boutique will be transformed into a ‘Girls on Bikes stop’ in the vein of a truck stop but for chic girls around town who ride bikes! 6pm – 11pm
Oscar de la renta will have a special FNO collection available online
Alexander McQueen Collect one of a limited number of FNO2011 keys containing a special code for the chance to win an Alexander McQueen Folk Tote. Enter your code online to see if you’ve unlocked the gift.

3 important factors to good etiquette: phone, social graces, and conversation topics. Boarding school nailed proper dining etiquette into my head that sometimes my friends make fun of me for being such a goodie two shoe. However, I still think dining table etiquette is still important and relevant in 2011. My friend was just out on a date and her date would not put his phone down, such a turn off. Read this great article by Asia Tatler before going out to dinner with your significant other’s parents for the first time or going on that important lunch interview. It may seem boring but you might want to thank me after!

Lately I’ve been attending a lot of charity and social events. A fashion and finance mixer I attended this Friday at the Hudson Terrace got me fantasizing about me throwing my own mixer at a fabulous venue. I had heard a lot about W London, but unfortunately have not been to London, England myself yet. The pictures I found provided me with an excellent idea of what the venue is like though. I’ll be sure to send my readers invites if I ever get to London and have enough dough to throw a party at the W London.

part#3: the RANDOM ADVENTURES throughout new york city
1. Rent bicycles and ride up and down the Hudson river park – catch a great view of hundreds of local joggers, suntan on the grassy piers, sangria at Boat Basin Cafe
my oldschool american vintage bicycle
2. Hudson River: blanket, picnic feast (Murray’s cheese shop mmmm) bottle of wine and you’re all set
day or night, it's gorgeous along the hudson
3. Alexander McQueen at the MET, actually standing in line while I write most of this! Aka weekday and early in the am is best (it’s 2pm and taking at least an hour) plus there’s a rooftop bar with a delightful view open until 6pm
take in the view & sunshine up top the MET
4. Out of city adventure? Even as you set foot on the train you can feel the beach vibe! About 2 hours (train to bayshore then ferry to ocean beach was what we did) you can be on Fire Island with the rest of manhattan that needs an escape. So picturesque, no vehicles on the island, radio flyer wagons are typical use to get beach chairs & cool drinks through the pathways to find your perfect little piece of beach heaven….!
yes, tropical beachside does exist this close to nyc!
time to get out and enjoy xx

WOW if you have the energy this glowing city does not stop… Here’s a few memory making activities that filled my weekends & evenings this spring & into summer:
part#1: OUTDOOR/PATIO/ROOFTOP DRINKS (in no official order, all equally fab!):
1. Biergarten at the standard hotel in the meatpacking district – picnic table style, crowded as ever with a popular & vibrant new yorkers
2. Mé Bar in Korea town, secret gem of a rooftop with $22 bottles of wine, small patio area, least “glam” of my selections which is often a nice change, sweet view of Rockefeller center which is literally a block away, 32nd street between 5th & 6th, enter the
3. Central park, byob + picnic basket, my favorite area is here: between turtle pond & the great lawn
4. The frying pan, on the river near chelsea, a couple old boats tied up to the pier, fresh, fun and can get a bit crazy into the evenings… fantastic sunset views to boot
5. Corner of 10th St & west 4th St in the west village (yes both streets, love the proper village vibe in this area!) just a block down from the apt I call home in nyc, 4 bar/restaurants right on that corner with good looking young people… been know as my gf’s and my “local” – plenty of cafes/restaurants/bars all throughout the area between there and the meat packing districts, many with either opened up walls/windows, streetside tables, back gardens etc
6. Soho park, great little place with well priced wine, sit in the tiny garden area and put your feet up after hours of soho wandering and shopping! (get your daily dose of greens with their chicago style fried zucchini stix)
7. Oh cannot forget about stone street in the business district, busy most nights but likely wed & thurs are your best bets for suited man watching – bars line both sides of the picnic table filled cobblestone street – the Mexican place is know to do some of the best gauc in the city
8. Shake shack, a nyc staple, there’s a bunch of these throughout the city but the main attraction would be the one in Madison square park, outdoor seating and great people watching – good tie on for shopping in the flat iron district
9. Back again at the meatpacking district, the well-known brasserie Pastis attracts a very international crowd: cannot go wrong with fab french fair paired with curbside & starstudded ‘hidden-behind sunglasses’ celeb spotting
…more? of course! share your favourite places with us too!
now time to get out & play xx

If you love life’s random coincidences as much as I do, get a kick out of this one:
Met with the lovely Robyn & Mauricio of Shine PR yesterday afternoon and as Mauricio is flipping through our autumn2011 catalogue his gaze is caught by one of the photo’s… then he flips through his iPhone and shows me the identical bench – but the photo is taken in a Mexico City park across the street from his home in 1982. How cute!!!

I realize it has been awhile since my last post, and though I make no excuses I will mention that I was in a haze of graduation and holiday manic/bliss. But here we are now – new year, new day and new post! I love the start of a new year, or any new beginning really, where everything seems like a possibility, and time is on your side. Here are a few of the things I am most excited for this year…
Lots of pop-culturey things…
- Harry Potter & The Deathly Hollows P.II: how can you NOT get swept up in the mythical land of HP and his mates?
- Twilight – Breaking Dawn: How much paler can they really make K-Stew?
- A new Justin Timberlake album: VERY exciting. I swear the man can do no wrong.
- LC’s new reality show: Cue the rolling eyes. Don’t hate – we’ve already established I’m a fan see Guilty Pleasure: Lauren Conrad.
Some techy things…
- Blackberry Playbook: I don’t know that I actually NEED it, but I know that I want it and it appears to have a lot more features than the iPad. Plus I hear it’s under $500!
- XBOX kinect: I want to be the controller so badly! This is a must buy for me this year.
Some fashion related things…
- Printed EVERYTHING: Prints are gearing up to be huge this spring/summer and I could not be more excited. This year is going to be bigger, louder, and more playful and expressive than ever.
- A New York City trip: I’ve been dying to take a trip to the big apple for YEARS. And with my mom’s continuous hints about it being my grad prezzie I’m already planning our day-by-day itinerary.
- The Sienna Ray fall.winter collection. Seriously. From what I’ve seen thus far it looks AMAZEBALLS. You guys are going to LOVE it!
What does your list include?

I’m Gemma Burgess,Creative Director of New Issue Design. My company specializes in editorial design and I have worked on many high profile magazines both in Canada and internationally. Originally from the UK, I moved to Vancouver 2 years ago after travelling the world for 7 months.
I knew Natalie back in London, England where I worked for the Cosmopolitan Group and since moving to Vancouver we have become very good friends. You can always find us enjoying a cocktail or two at various trendy Yaletown bars or checking out the latest fashions in Holts.
I love all of Natalie’s luxurious bags and already have quite a collection. My absolute fave though is my stylish black leather ‘Gem bag’ that Natalie named after me, which was an honour. It is such a neat design and I can dress it up or down depending on how I wear it. It is just the right size to carry my wallet and the all important lip gloss on a night out.
It has even been known to carry one diaper and a packet of wipes, so I can be a chic mom on the go with my 15 month old son. Who said moms can’t be glamorous!

Having first met the talented Jackee preforming quartet style ala swank rooftop of a gastown penthouse for the inaguarl Designers on Designers event, I have yet been able to get her tunes out of my head.
The utmost favourite is by far her rendition of ”Girl From Ipanema” – which you’ll notice compliments our ss2011 behind the scenes video (coming soon) with an effortless coolness & so suited for a summertime picnic affair.
Not only do we at Sienna Ray love Jackee, she been busy for the last 2 years and making her mark as one of Canada’s new and exciting vocalists. As a vocalist and composer Guillou creates an organic well structured canvas. Jackée’s voice is raw and emotional with intensity so sultry that it lingers long after the last note. From stunning ballads to toe-tappin’ grooves to rhythmic original music, this songster has mega vocal chops with her own unique sound. Her original compositions showcase her dynamic range and combine quirky lyrics with major elements of romance and cool groove.
You can catch her perfoming a regular music series at Raw Canvas in Yaletown. She will be playing every last thursday of the month from 8-11pm. The venue is a creative space and hosts a tapas lounge, wine bar and art studio, an extraordinary social destination. Jackée continues her regular gig with her jazz trio at db Bistro Moderne every other week. Check the website for restaurant info and other fabulous events.
Jackée and her quartet will be touring British Columbia in the fall. They’re thrilled to kick off the tour in Vancouver, playing the Cellar Jazz Club tomorrow Oct 6. Their last performance at the club was sold out and reservations are highly recommended. The quartet travels through the province to such places as Kelowna, Vernon, Kamloops and Victoria. Make sure to spread the word, the next tour won’t be until spring 2011!
Jackée is available for private events, concerts and house concerts. She is also available for private vocal instruction and workshops. Please contact Brian Guillou for all booking inquiries.
Stay tuned for all news at www.Jackee.ca

We are thrilled to have such a wonderful individual to kickoff our ongoing “sienna ray admires” posts!
stef and her sunday belt purse
I’m Stefanie, I live and play in Kitsilano, Vancouver. I am currently at school studying Italian and Spanish in the Romance Studies program at UBC.
The last couple of summers I have been in Sardegna, Italy working at a street night market selling little wooden dolphins to tourists! This allowed me to enjoy what beautiful Sardegna has to offer: beaches, sun, gelato, and warm friendly people. I learned my love for the Argentine Tango there, where I had my first lessons, and now I try to dance at the Vancouver Milongas as much as I can!
I discovered my awesome Sunday Belt when I was working at Hum on Main Street, and I saw it on a customer. She looked so comfortable and hip with her hands free and I had to know where she got it from! I am so happy with my belt now, as it has helped me learn how to carry only the essentials with me;)
Everyone who compliments me on it has to touch it, and feel how beautifully soft it is! I know I will be making use of it for a loooong time.
In my belt: I have my ipod, my phone, chap stick, a little change purse and all my cards.
Sunday belt purse can be viewed online or purchased at your local sienna ray retailer.

Spring is here – along with all the “let’s get outdoors again” events popping up today, tomorrow and next week. You wont see me complaining, it’s only the CW network that may notice I have finally resorted to a bit of TiVo in order to keep my weekly addiction of teen primetime satisfied….
Next week’s main cuplrit is a mixed celebration grand opening of the Milestones at Cambie Crossroads with must-have make-overs from the lusious Wish List ladies from Kits and special sneak peaks of the newest jewelry and handbags from Vancouver local ALeone and ourselves Sienna Ray!
Whether it’s the mouth watering thought of Bellini’s in the sunshine or the first glimpse of our must have messengers for fall (new antiqued brass chain straps = to die for!) grab a fellow fashionable gal pal and come join me tuesday for a few après workday group gossip sessions.

For most of us it’s that “in-between” season: that little bit too warm to wear your winter coat but a tad bit on the chilly side to get the legs out on show.
And I don’t know about you, but I cringe at the feeling and sight of good ole’ fashion neutral coloured pantyhouse…. do you grin and bare the goosebumps on your pasty winterized legs – or – grow your patience and wait for the true summertime heat?
Solution: founded by Jessica Halabi of Edmonton (who must know what real patience is when it snowed nearby just last week, ouch!) who created the hand splatter painted nude tight, oh so sexy!!
Cannot imagine how she paints these – are her legs stained with the backsplash hue of paints… but nonetheless I so want a pair, and only $20 for such a wearable original piece of art!

Oh what to do with friends and family in town?
There’s the mainstream traditional: Whistler, Granville Island, Grouse Mountain – maybe even Capilano Suspension Bridge… all of which are fabulous but can get a touch mundane time after time.
Hence my newest discovery – and I cannot believe it took me so long to find this gem – of the port town of Steveston. A super quant fishing village bustling with cafe’s and cute-sie little boutiques. I hear the views on a sunshiny day are amazing but to our happy surprise the gloomy drizzly day actually added to the historic atmosphere.
We strolled around, taking in the sights while slowly gaining bags of goodies:
Racks & Racks of cards, candles, & LUG travel goods & great gift ideas @ Pieces.
More cards, notebooks & wonderful selection of tea leaves and pots @ Nikaido Gifts.
favourite purchase: mini glass teapot which goes beautifully with bodum glasses!
Then to rest our feet (and our credit cards) we chilled for a while over the most unique Thai inspired seafood dishes. I was craving a warm bowl of chowder and much to my delight, their Pacific Seafood Chowder blew my expectations. The secret ingredient was Torogashi spice – one I will now keep my eye out for.
