A captivating read is a must have while trying to catch a tan (or in my case a burn). Poolside, by the beach, or in your room, a book is the perfect way to get lost in another world.
This was the first one off of my summer list and I could not put it down until it was finished! The Pact by Jodi Picoult is a novel about a possible suicide pact between two teenagers and the scary depth of their love. A slightly frightening, young love story that makes us question how well we understand relationships, especially amongst teenagers, and just how much stress is needed to break bonds that had seemed to be infinite.
I usually hate love stories. Anything that ends so perfectly just never seems real to me. With The Pact, it was exactly the opposite; a story that started perfect goes on to crumble. I feel like we all know a couple that is this connected or at least seems this perfect, and for me I definitely had a few people in mind while reading. It amazed me to think that two people can love each other to such an extent that it is dangerous. To see how their families deal with the tragedy that unfolds was the moving part, leaving me dying to find out answers.
Jodi Picoult always gets an A+ in my book, but her fifth novel takes you on an emotional roller coaster of a life time. She creates suspense and tension on sensitive, but real life topics. It’s amazing that she can understand what a seventeen year old male would be thinking as a women in her 40′s. I highly recommend her novels as they are fiction but not so far fetched from our own experiences. And for those who aren’t so big on reading…. four of her books have been made into television movies!
Just don’t forget the sunblock ;)
