meatpacking monday: take a stroll through NYC’s High Line park & get inspired!

One of the coolest spots in NYC by far has to be the High Line park, located on Manhattan’s West Side. It runs from Gansevoort Street in the Meatpacking District to West 34th Street, between 10th & 11th Avenues. Founded by community residents in 1999, this city sanctuary was built on an historic freight rail line elevated above the streets on Manhattan. From catching some rays, to having a picnic, or even hosting a runway show, the High Line has it all. Almost everyday of the week this public park has an event or attraction for it’s visitors. If you live in NYC, or are just visiting this is a M U S T see.

stone street oyster fest is approaching! get your “shuck” on in the [financial district]

Add a comment

What can possibly be better than drinking beer  on the street and eating oysters all day? The Stone Street Oyster Festival is coming up next Saturday, Sept 22nd in NYC’s Financial District. The party is located on Stone Street and Hanover Square- hosted by financial district stalwarts Ulysses Folk House and Harry’s Café and Steak. The two downtown drinking-dens have put together the party for 10 years running, Good music, fun company, beer + champagne + oyster = a done deal! See you there. xx

What to do on a Wednesday night? West Village it is!

Add a comment

Fashion week does not start until tomorrow…what’s a girl to do on this mighty fine Wednesday in New York City? Let’s make it a West Village kind of night @ Windsor! Today just happens to be the opening of football season, Giants verse Cowboys…and I know what you thinking (football really?) but it’s more about the eye candy then the game. The Windsor is not your typical sports bar, it is a SUPER CUTE small spot on on west 4th street with “social sensibility” (meaning a good crowd).  Not only is the crowd and decor on point, but so is the food. So put on those skinny jeans and grab your girls after work for happy hour.

A sports bar in NYC not filled with tourists TOUCHDOWN ;) See you there xx

Did I mention the Greg Louganis Springboard (aka british gin) cocktails..?

Kips Bay Churchill, London's calling.

Upping the odds: they had me at hello with the nostalgic proper British tavern vibe. They will keep me hanging about with a mysterious “surprise treat” served on the housewith each gold medal pulled in by team England!

Chelsea Smithfield, Pimms + Hendricks + English grub.

Count on a bar known as “the home of football in NYC” to offer up a trifecta of Olympic-ness. Well priced $6 cocktails, twenty-one (yes that’s plenty of) TV’s, and boasting of opening hours as early as 10:30am for top events – and with the +5 time London time difference it’s ‘game on’ at all times!

NOHO Slainte, beers on bowery + healthy happy hour!

Get cozy in this intimate Irish drinkery. With 20 beers on tap, and a two-for-one beer and wine happy hour special weekdays from noon to 8 p.m this establishment is surely to receive plenty of support!

Murrary Hill, rooftop timeouts.

Plethora of drink specials, plasma TV’s, cushy sofas and breathing room with touristy-worthy views via the rooftop patio. Has weekday Olympic Fix written all over it with Olympics fix while enjoying happy hour specials such as $3 drafts and $4 well liquor drinks from 11am-8pm M-F.

Upper East Side Dorians, English 'charming' included.

Bring your Prep to mingle alongside Co-eds with gold metal class. In exchange for cold beer and raging burgers you’ll need to ensure your man dons a collared shirt to grant access to the Olympic hangout north of 83rd.

Up your nail-art game! We are obsessed with these artsy stick on options. Just when we thought we have seen it all-along comes Sephora with their totally rad entry into the category. The new Sephora by OPI Trend Tips are the same trusty old nail polish strips we’ve all come to know and love, but in an amazing array of super-cool new patterns. genious designer Jason Wu for Target!

Next month, Jason will debuts his 53-piece “gamine chic” collection for target, a very tightly edited collection compared to the 500 missoni pieces that took target by storm. The goods look pretty cool, with a certain ladylike appeal to match that of Wu’s very pricey main line, and the prices are certainly cheap ranging from $30-60. CANT WAIT!!!

Maini for H&M= MAGIC!

Versace relaunches line for H&M...i smell sucess?

H&M is on fiyahhhh! They just announced its next designer collaboration will be with Italian fashion house Marni. The Swedish retailer caused global hysteria earlier this month when the Versace for H&M line went on sale, and its earlier collaborations with high-end brands such as Lanvin and Sonia Rykiel have been just as successful. It will be available in 260 stores worldwide and online as of March 8, 2012. Will you be buying? 2012 will also see the release of a second round of designs from Versace creative director Donatella, whose Fall 2012 sold out in just half an hour in some stores. Fans of the collection can start preparing for the launch of the Versace for H&M cruise collection. Last week a spokesperson for H&M confirmed Donatella’s Spring pre-collection will be available January 19, although only in countries where H&M has an e-commerce site such as the UK, Germany, the Netherlands, Denmark, Sweden and Norway. Get your credit cards ready!

Oscar de la Renta for Beats by Dr. Dre

gime gimie gimie!!

Oscar de la Renta just released a set of luxe headphones in collaboration with Dr. Dre, which we are extremely excited about. The Beats by Dr. Dre headphones are covered in silver fox fur and of course, PETA has something to say about it. They sent a letter directly to Dre asking him to keep fur and exotic animal skins out of the product. Dre & Oscar haven’t made any comments about it yet- but lets just say I hope they stay just the way they are.

artist Yayoi Kusama for Louis Vuitton

Louis Vuitton’s collaboration with the late graffiti artist Stephen Sprouse in 2001 was probably the most exciting thing to happen to the monogrammed bag since the invention of the alphabet!  Their newest collab with Japanese artist Yayoi Kusama, who’s known for her red-and-white polka-dot art, might be just as brilliant. What fashionista doesnt have a soft spot for a little Lewy? Her spots will appear on LV products ranging from bags to clothing to jewelry this summer (though don’t plan on finding them on the Fashion Week runways in February)

Think haunted houses are for kids? Then you haven’t experienced NYC’s Blood Manor haunted house- 5,000 square feet of terror. This bloodcurdling labyrinth takes you through twenty themed rooms of horror including: the graveyard of the doomed, killer clowns, disgraceland, the cabaret of death, and zombie apocalypse. Combining the high value production of a Broadway show with the thrill of a go-go bar..this Halloween is definitely adult proofed. Their attention to detail is seriously impressive and although the sets are amazing, it’s the actors that truly set Blood Manor apart from the rest of NYC’s Halloween attractions.  Cast members don’t hesitate to lunge at, follow and tease visitors, even while taking a fair amount of heckling from tipsy tourists. The attraction will be taking place 163 Varick Street from October 7-November 5…don’t be a scaredy cat!

Who says you can’t be a star? Halloween is the perfect day where you can be ANYONE you want- including a celebrity. We know how creative you can be! Remember when trick-or-treating was the highlight of your season, it still can be- with a little ambition and imagination.  Here are some fab celeb costume ideas- and the best part is we will tell you exactly what pieces you need to make the look come together.

these creative chicks captured the essence of the Olsen twins!

These chickas have some serious style! Mary Kate & Ashley Olsen is a delicious duo for Halloween. The above image is a costume that two ladies put together themselves. It is supper easy to do, and of course let’s make it your own! Here’s what you will need:

  1. your best friend (or sister) to be the 2nd twin
  2. 1 long black dress & 1 long white dress- you can switch it up by using gray, nude, brown or any neutrals (the twins do not wear much color)
  3. a long jacket (anything vintage works great)- don’t be afraid to hit your local thrift store!
  4. huge sunglasses
  5. blonde wigs (if you don’t have blonde hair)
  6. hippie headbands
  7. black nail polish
  8. 2 empty starbucks cups (or full depending on what ur drinkin!)…add some flare by writing their names in sharpie on each cup
  9. have your blackberry or iphone in had
  10. and most importantly LOTS of accessories- rings, necklaces, bracelets, earrings & of course your fav Sienna Ray cross body or tote

  2. cropped leather jacket
  3. black leather leggings
  4. tight corset & bright colored push up bra
  5. tall strappy stilettos

outrageous gaga

Of course how could this celeb Halloween list not have the ultimate pop-star Lady GaGa! This outrageous fashionista is known for her out of control style. There are MANY lady  gaga looks you could try for your costume (if your daring enough)- but this one is a no brainer. Here’s what your need:

  1. a hooded leotard (you could choose any color you like)- of course from American Apparel
  2. long blonde wig with bangs
  3. rayband esc sunglasses
  4. long gloves (choose to match your leotard or add in some extra color)
  5. if your not willing to bare all of that leg try some sexy fishnet tights
  6. your choice of thigh-high boots or ridiculously high pumps- the crazier the shoe, the better

Good luck with your costume, hope this helps! Don’t forget to post your pictures- we can’t wait to see what you come up with! Happy Halloween ;)

Sienna’s Stories : Does the city scare you?

Add a comment

After several days hiatus I have returned. If you would like a sneak peek at what kept me so busy this weekend, take a look!  A big thanks to Rob Daly for this weekend, so lovely for you to make the trip! The weather here in NYC has continued to tease me. 70+ degrees Fahrenheit some days and not a drop of rain to be seen! I loathe the couple of days with inconsistent heavy rains, however, as much as my mood (& skin) will miss the constant sunshine, I cannot pretend I am not excited for a real AUTUMN weekend. With the Holidays just around the corner, I only have several weekends before the sequence of extended family gatherings begins (aka lots of traveling and not always on my own personal terms!).

Here are a couple of the things on the bucket list for this glorious fall…

Gotta love my WINE: I’ve heard from many of my girlfriends that the vineyard tours on Long Island are a must do! Many come with package deals for wine tastings at several neighboring vineyards: why get all that way for one, the more the merrier! Ironic as it is, I do not really think of the east coast of America when I think of wine. This ‘just outside the city’ adventure seems similar to a vineyard tour I went on last year in the gorgeous landscape of Oregon. Oh, the memories…

Bringing out the CHILD in me: Might I suggest venturing to the pumpkin patch very soon! With the beautiful weekends we have been having, I am sure the patch has been quite the hotspot for families, teens, young couples and really anyone (like me) that get’s all giddy over every little holiday throughout the year! A popular favorite, again out on Long Island, is the long standing Helen’s with a corn maze for the children, hot apple cider and a beautiful country view for a bit of FALL romance, and of course pumpkins for carving and recipes galore. I’m sure there are many in the tri-state area to get your Halloween sweet tooth fulfilled!

It definitely seems that Long Island is not just an escape from the summer humidity, but a great little weekend escape from the city for any season! Although NYC may be what brings people to this area… clearly there are hidden gems to be seen in the surrounding areas. Though, I personally do not want to miss the HARD Haunted NYC affair at Terminal 5! Skream and Benga, original dubstep DJ’s from the UK (a step away and above mainstream dubstep sounds) are performing with Joker this Saturday. I came across this tempting night out on the list of Fall activities (101 to be specific) in the latest TimeOut - be sure to check out number 74 for pumpkin patch fun IN the city. So excited to finally spend a long night dancing until the morning with the floors throbbing under my feet and flashing lights all around me.

What are you doing this weekend?

There is only one thing that comes to mind when we reach this day of the week, “Thirsty Thursday”! It is time to kick back and unwind with a great glass of wine. Napa Valley, located in northern California, is known as the mecca of wineries and vineyards.  Why not kick off your Napa Valley excursion with an adventurous wine tour?  The tours point out landmarks-wineries along the way, and tell stories about local history and winemaking. The best part of the tour is tasting some of the world’s most delicious wines!

I know what your thinking…not everyone has the funds to visit Napa Valley for a wine tasting tour. Lucky for you every major city has a first-class winery or local wine events that offer tasting selections to fit everyone’s unique palette. If you’re located in NYC check out local wine events to get your drink on.

Fashion’s Night Out (FNO) was originally conceived by Anna Wintour in 2008. For me, FNO is like a city wide fashion show that is open to the public. Designers and important people in the fashion industry make appearances at retail stores that are showing their latest fashion. FNO is definitely a love child of fashion and fun.

To list a couple of my favorite in store events on 10/8…

Phillip Lim boutique will be transformed into a ‘Girls on Bikes stop’ in the vein of a truck stop but for chic girls around town who ride bikes! 6pm – 11pm

Oscar de la renta will have a special FNO collection available online

I got very excited when Natalie suggested I write about Tubo Hotel in Mexico. That is because their website is partially written in Spanish- my minor finally came in handy aha! To be honest, I read a short blurb in Spanish on the welcome page before quickly clicking onto the “Frequently Asked Questions” tab.

What amazes me about the place isn’t the ambiance, decor, or concept, but the price. The room goes for only $500 pesos all year  round! Take a look at what cool architecture the hotel is!

Meeting a fashion designer, your role model, or w celebrity in person is always exciting. This Saturday I was blesses with the presence of Derek Lam, guest speaker of Fashion Camous NYC’s first annual networking event. Derek was incredible and the talk was super inspiring. Here’s some snippets from the interview:

Q: What drew you to fashion and what sustains you to it?
A: I’ve always been creative. Collaborating with people is my forte, hence, creating a brand made sense.I love thatyou get immediate feedback from consumers.

Q: What’s a typical week like for you?
A: Meetings on top of meetings. This week I’ve had to put all the ducks together and get work started. I oversee all aspects of the business: retail, overhead, shoe, production, etc. I think every opportunity can be a creative opportunity.

Q: What are the highs and lows?
A: They’re indefinite. A review a review. The problem is sometimes you loose value in the things you make by the time constraint.

Q: best part of the fashion industry?
A: you get to tap into culture and reflect that through design right away. The initial inspiration is still there when your product comes out.

Lastly, I’d like to quote a short short but sweet words of Derek,
“if you’re studying medicine, maybe you should stop if you’re interested in fashion.”

I was fortunate enough to hear Derek Lam, fashion designer, speak on Saturday. He had said being in the fashion industry means you have to keep up to date culture and current happenings. The Newspaper, internet, books, etc. do the trick, but why not visit a museum? The place is filled with culture and is not a bad source of entertainment!

If you can’t make it to The Moma, be sure to visit Google Art Project, where you can hundreds of artworks from museums all around the world.

Ask and you shall receive: look what I found at my local choc-a-holic cafe, these conviently envelope-sized chocolate bars!

What could be more inspiring than beautiful Kitsilano Beach at sunset with a perfect city view for a nautical themed photoshoot?

The first styled photoshoot featuring Sienna Ray & Co. handbags took place at this ideal location earlier this month.  We had a fabulous team working on the shoot and our wonderful collaboration shines through in our beautiful photos.

Grace and I styled Maddi, our model, with Sienna Ray bags, clothing from L2 Leone and other items and accessories that we brought from our own closets.  Maddi was so lovely to work with – she put on the fierce and smiled with her eyes so well even Tyra Banks would’ve loved her!

Natalie brought along her assortment of bags, and worked with our videographer, Olin, on shooting a new video for the Sienna Ray website.  She shares some exciting news for Sienna Ray fans in the video… but you’ll have to wait and see to find out! Katy, the designer of the new Sienna Ray belt bag also came to help with the video and demonstrate the convenience and practicality of her namesake accessory.

Julia, our photographer, unleashed her inner Nigel Barker and couldn’t have been more fantastic.  The proof is in the pictures.  Cerise from Blanche MacDonald styled Maddi’s hair and did her make-up; she looked fresh, natural and beachy.

Our first photoshoot was a huge success! The pictures will be online soon, but first some behind the scenes shots:

While there, I had the chance to explore the famous Pike Place Market located on First Avenue. It was love at first sight. Everything from the old-world feel of the fish market, to the rows upon rows of fresh cut flowers and handcrafted works of art for sale stimulated the senses. It is easy to spend an entire day just meandering through the market, taking in all that it has to offer.

Taking full advantage of my visit, I explored the Market from top to bottom. I was pleasantly surprised that the Market closes the street to traffic on Sundays, the day I happened to be there. It gave the market a certain energy with all of the tourists and locals buzzing around from vendor to vendor. With no need to worry about traffic, I was able to focus 100% of my efforts on why I was there… to shop.

And shop I did. Pike Place Market boasts over 200 vendors during the summer months, all with something entirely unique being offered.

To note some of my favourites at the Pike Place Market:
