Halloween Sienna Ray Styled : The Designer Pumpkin Carving How To

Add a comment

It’s all in the details. The more unique the better. And matching our favorite outfit styling of mixing casual with formal / day to night / high and low we’ve taken a modern design approach to traditional pumpkin carving!

Ingredients are the usual: good group of friends, big orange vegetables, cutting & digging tools – plus a little acrylic paint for the going the extra ten yards.

Pull on your holiday spirit, roll up your sleeves, tis the season to let your creative juices flow…

How to carve a designer halloween pumpkin!

Tips & Tricks:

Selecting Your Pumpkin:

*only one side will be seen so find a good “face” is most important

*try not to pick your pumpkin up by the stem as (like mine did!) you’ll tear the cute topper right off

Inspiration:

*think color blocking, traditional colors mixed with a pop color

Tools:

*local art store for acrylic paints and inexpensive brushes

*a couple good spoons for pulling out the guts

*thin serrated knife for detail cuts

*large sharpe knife for top and large cut outs

Design:

*can print a pic and use a toothpic to poke through creating an outline

*sharpie markers work great, soapy water can take excess off the pumpkin if you draw in error

*anything goes, think iconic rather than traditional to get the full designer pumpkin effect

Cutting + Carving:

*cut the top big enough to have plenty of room to get your hand in there to scoop out all the bits

*as a kid my favorite thing was to save the seeds and use mom’s special recipe for roasting pumpkin seeds

*make sure to keep the top/lid as this keeps the light inside

*covering the table in a plastic table cloth or even a bunch of garbage bags helps to let you get messy as ever – and I even used the covered table as my direct paint pallet

HAVE FUN, HAPPY HALLOWEEN!!

Tribal sure has made a place for itself in the seasonless trend section of my wardrobe. Something just simply fun about the hectic complimentary patterns. I’m loving the black+white contrast worked into a #toomuchisnevertoomuch mixup mashup of nail design.

We all know pink & red are the ways to play it safe with our luscious lips… and I don’t know about you, but the bright crayola colored lips are a bit too way-out-there for me to jump on that current trend bandwagon!

Needless to say I found a happy medium solution today!

So extra fitting, this soft creamsilce orange shade keeps the final lingering days of summer at the forefront of my smile.

It’s time to live on the edge. You’ve seen your girlfriends rockin’ the ombre nails. Now it’s your turn to stand out on the edge. (Or as this picture above on the cute side of the edge)

Here’s the step by step of how to do ombre, add your creative flare for an outline look.

Boy it sure is summertime outside these days! The heat has arrived.

And if you’re like me, there are more “up-do” days when the temps are this high… so it’s time to get playfully creative!

Here’s a take on the average at-ease bun: dig into the bottom of your make-up bag and grab a few of those bobbin pins to accessorize a light and easy fresh look for your day!

Step 1Fresh clean hair always feels and looks best. Use your typical lotions and potions, dry hair smooth with a paddle brush for a smooth base.

Step 2Pull hair back from the face and secure into a low side ponytail. Wrap ends up and around, creating a loose, twisted bun. Secure with bobby pins.

Step 3Use a contrasting color of bobby pins to make a row of chevrons (learn something new everyday, I had no clue that’s what this design is called!). Black pins are a good choice for blondes; silver would be better for dark strands. Slide one pin in on a diagonal, then a second pin through the first to create a stable v shape. Repeat until desired pattern is created.

Step 4Step back, glance yourself in the mirror, smile at the beautiful you.

Good looking DIY: REVERSE Tie Dye (the art of bleach tie-dying your jeans)

the art of DIY reverse bleach tie dye for jeans

Sometimes mistakes are made to happen.

Not only a great validation for looking at ‘the glass half full’ – but to challenge yourself to make the most of certain situations…

Example at hand: when a friend accidentally spills a bit bleach on the left cheek of your favorite deep scarlet red skinnies!

After a few moments of saving face by holding back the tears (note to self: become less attached to wardrobe!) that curious little light bulb went off. The bleach spot actually came out a very complimentary color… a magic bit of research later, it was time to test out a touch of reverse tie dye:

COLLECT THE GOODS:
-bleach
-elastic bands
-big bucket / washing sink
-rubber gloves
-heavily pigmented colored jeans looking for a new look!

WALK THE WALK:
1. soak jeans in cold water, wring/spin cycle to damp
2. twist & turn the jeans as tight as you can (this is where rubber gloves become essential!)
3. create knotted areas and tie securely with elastic bands (these are the areas that stay colored)
4. create a bucket/tub of bleach water, the suggestion is to dilute say 1/3bleach to 2/3water
5. let soak for 1-6 hours depending on your desired look (note: when dried, the bleach area will lighten even more)
6. …if you’re a risk taker like me, use your discretion but I dripped straight bleach on certain areas to heighten the process!
7. untie & unwind, rinse in water, hang to dry to set in bleach
8. give them a wash through the laundry before wearing for a final set and to remove some of the bleach scent

*note* the bleach can reduce the strength of the denim so I highly suggest making sure the crotch/lower bum area of your jeans is part of the inside of a knot to reduce bleach exposure & eventual holes…!

BEFORE: red FCUK skinny jeans

THE GOODS: elastics, gloves, denim

VOILA: checking out the bleach work

PATIENCE: dying time is key

There’s no doubt the fall weather is upon us. I’m sure your closets are stocked with luscious cashmere sweaters, beautiful scarves, and cozy mittens. The question is, is your hair (color) ready? Bleach blonde, fiery red ginger red, and chocolate brown were THE shades for the summer, but not so much for the fall. Take a look at these three “it” shades for the fall.
